...is that most people want to enjoy performing well in their work. They want pride from doing good work and achieving worthwhile results. And they tend to naturally want to learn and grow through their work. You know this applies to yourself.

But they don't always understand or acknowledge the business deal they've made. They don't always keep in mind that they can define what personal rewards they desire from their work, and then earn them via achieving your business objectives.

The Challenge (Your Greatest and Most Complex Business Asset)

Likewise, it's important to understand that your people are your greatest and most complex business asset. Their positioning, alignment, and personal learning and performance strategy are rarely given the importance they deserve. In fact, and this is very important - if the learning and performance strategies, systems and tools that your business uses are not embraced and 'owned' by your employees, then their performance and your business performance will likely suffer.

 

Your Employees Must Drive!

It's no longer enough to just throw your 'learning approach' at your employees (or even just point them towards it). Instead, they need to learn how to steer themselves across their performance gaps, using what you provide internally and resources far beyond that too. You can provide them whatever learning/performance vehicles you want, but ultimately for them to work, your employees have to drive.
